The Caribbean's biggest windsurf and kite event
With its steady trade winds and flat turquoise water, Aruba is one of the best windsurfing spots in the world. Every year that reputation is celebrated at Aruba Hi-Winds, a watersports festival that brings together professionals, amateurs and young talent from around the world.
History
Hi-Winds was founded in 1987 by local entrepreneurs Antony Blok and Ruben Croes. The event quickly gained international recognition and became part of the professional world tour, attracting champions such as Bjorn Dunkerbeck and Robby Naish. Over the years it opened up to amateurs and added kitesurfing and other disciplines.
What to expect
The competition takes place at Fisherman's Huts (Hadicurari) near Malmok, on the north-west coast. Disciplines include windsurf racing and freestyle, kitesurfing, wing foiling and youth classes. In recent editions a long-distance race finished at Eagle Beach. On shore there is music, food and a festival atmosphere, and watching is free.

Tips for visitors
- Fisherman's Huts is close to the Palm Beach hotels; arrive early for parking.
- Bring sunscreen and water: there is little shade on the beach.
- Want to try it yourself? Several windsurf and kite schools are located at Fisherman's Huts.
