Making the most of a day in port
Aruba is one of the most popular cruise destinations in the southern Caribbean. In 2025 the island welcomed a record of almost 971,000 cruise passengers on 376 ship calls, according to the Aruba Ports Authority.
Cruise ships dock in the harbour of Oranjestad, right in the centre of the capital. That makes it easy to explore on your own, even if you only have a few hours.

- Oranjestad – the colourful capital with Dutch colonial buildings
- Shopping in Aruba – Royal Plaza Mall, Renaissance Mall and Main Street
- Renaissance Marketplace on the waterfront, with bars and restaurants
- The free streetcar through downtown Oranjestad (Monday to Saturday)

- Surfside Beach – the closest beach, a short taxi ride
- Eagle Beach – about 10 minutes by taxi
- Palm Beach – lively beach with water sports
Excursions
Popular shore excursions are catamaran snorkel trips, the Atlantis Submarine, jeep tours to the north coast and a visit to Renaissance Island. Book through your cruise line or a reputable local operator, and plan enough time to be back on board before departure.
