Weather, seasons, prices and events throughout the year
The short answer: Aruba is a great destination all year round. It is warm and sunny in every month, the island is dry, and it lies outside the main hurricane belt. The best time for your trip mainly depends on your budget, the crowds you are willing to accept and the events you would like to see.
Weather throughout the year
Daytime temperatures are between about 27 and 32°C (80–90°F) all year, with January and February slightly cooler and August to October the warmest. The sea is about 26°C (79°F) in the first months of the year and warms up to around 28–29°C (83–84°F) in autumn.
Aruba receives only about 460 mm (18 inches) of rain a year. Most of it falls in short showers during the rainy period at the end of the year, roughly from October to December or January. Even then, the sun usually comes out again quickly.
A cooling trade wind blows almost every day. The wind is often strongest between May and August, which is why the Hi-Winds windsurf and kite event takes place in May.
Hurricanes
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, but Aruba lies south of the main hurricane belt and direct hits are extremely rare. Storms that pass further north can bring rough seas, waves and some rain, as Hurricane Beryl did in July 2024 when it passed well north-east of the island.
High season and low season
- High season: mid-December to mid-April. The weather in North America and Europe is cold, so this is the busiest and most expensive period.
- Busiest weeks: Christmas and New Year, the Carnival parade weekends and the US spring break in March and April.
- Summer: July and August bring families from North America and the Netherlands, but it is quieter and cheaper than in winter.
- Best value: from about mid-April to mid-December hotel rates are usually clearly lower, and September to early December is often the quietest and cheapest time.
Events and highlights by month
- January–February: Carnival – parades in Oranjestad and San Nicolas; Carnival Monday 2027 is on 8 February
- March–September: sea turtle nesting – turtles nest on beaches such as Eagle Beach
- May: Aruba Hi-Winds – windsurfing and kiting at Fisherman's Huts
- June: KLM Aruba Marathon
- July: Aruba International Regatta
- September: Aruba Art Fair – street art in San Nicolas
- September–October: food festivals – Restaurant Week and the Autentico culinary festival
- December: Christmas, Dande and New Year
Good to know
- Sargassum seaweed hardly reaches the beaches on the west and south coasts; it sometimes washes up on the wild north-east coast.
- Mosquitoes are more common after rain, so bring insect repellent in the rainy period.
- The UV index is very high all year: use reef-safe sunscreen and avoid the midday sun.
