Legal requirements and wedding locations
Aruba is a popular wedding destination. Non-residents can marry legally on the island, so your ceremony on the beach can also be official.
Requirements
- Submit your documents to the civil registry (Censo) about 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.
- Required: valid passports and birth certificates (with apostille where applicable).
- Previously married? A divorce decree or death certificate of the former spouse.
- A statement that you are free to marry.
- Documents not in English or Dutch must be translated and legalised.
Same-sex marriage
Since a ruling by the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in July 2024, same-sex couples can marry in Aruba. A registered partnership has been available to all couples since 2021.
