Kite Surfing – The Latest Craze in Extreme Sports

One of the most thrilling things you can do on your Aruba vacation comes in the form of kite surfing. If you have never heard of it, this is a form of surfing that has taken off on the island. It is considered an extreme sport because you use a kite that is attached to your surfboard for added speed and exhilaration. This takes skill, though, so it is not recommended for beginners. If you are a beginner, you might want to seek out a kite surfer just for the spectacular show you will receive. For the more adventurous, this is a must when you visit Aruba.

Although the basics of kite surfing date back hundreds of years, the thought of it being used for anything other than transportation did not come until recent years. People actually used this to get their canoes from one end of the river to another. Later years saw people using the design on land as well to steer carts. It was not until about 10 years ago that this notion made its way into the extreme sports venue. The way it works actually is fairly simple. It typically has four strings attached to a handle that allows you to steer your ride.

The idea of it is to get it to lift off the water so you are in the air for a bit. Your body is able to do this because you are harnessed to the steering handle, which transfers the power generated from the wind to your hips. This eases up the strain on your hands and arms because you do not have to use them as much to steer. For anyone who wants to give kite surfing a try on their next vacation to Aruba, there actually are lessons that you can take. You will learn the basics of how the wind maneuvers the kite.

This initial kite surfing training is all done on dry land. You then are moved to the water for additional training. Once your training is completed, you will be a great beginner who most likely will be hooked on this extreme sport. Prices for these lessons vary depending on how many you take as well as where you book them. You have the option of taking all the lessons or just the first one. Taking all of them is well worth it though because you do not actually get into the water until your later lessons.
